John "Mook" Gibbons talks Wu-Tang Clan, "Mook In The Morning", Racism & more on the Marooned Podcast

The man behind the meteoric rise of the Wu-Tang Clan, John "Mook" Gibbons, visits Triangle Arts Macon to kick it with The Madvocates on Captain Flint's "Marooned" Podcast

MACON - If you've never heard the name John "Mook" Gibbons, don't worry, because you're about to start seeing his name EVERYWHERE as he prepares for the premier of the Mook in the Morning show on Wu-Tang's Wu-World Radio platform as well as the debut of his character on the highly anticipated return of the hit Hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

A fated return to his mother's Georgia roots prompted a visit to the hometown of Mook in the Morning co-host/co-producer, Chris Wind the EMA, and join Chris's Madvocates family for their traditional Tuesday recording of Captain Flint's Marooned podcast.

On Marooned Episode 25: I think I got my Quarter back OR Bruh Mook at Triangle!?, the Madvocates' origin story comes full circle as Mook and the crew compare the early days of Wu-Tang Clan and The Madvocates, racism in Staten Island and Macon, and the DIY ("do-it-yourself") roots of both Mook in the Morning and Marooned. The episode ultimately concludes with an invite for Flint to bring Marooned to Wu-World Radio, a heartfelt acknowledgement from Mook to The EMA, and talks of bringing an official branch of Wu-Tang and/or Protect Ya Neck to the Deep South (not to be confused with Cappadonna's Baltimore-based Wu-Tang South created in 2006).

He also takes time to promote Mook in the Morning which began as Mook going live from Instagram during the early weeks of Co-Vid 19 quarantine in 2020 as a means to inform and stay informed. As he reveals on the podcast, MITM on IG also served as a means for him to practice on-air speaking after his appearance on the Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men documentary in 2019 revealed to the world Mook's vibrant personality. Mook has more or stayed behind the scenes since the early days of Wu-Tang Clan where his younger cousin, The RZA, convinced him to serve as the group's first manager. Chris Wind the EMA (also known as Energy Masta Allah) became a frequent contributor to Mook's early IG broadcasts before being invited to co-host. A year later, this has led to Wind co-hosting and co-producing the radio format for MITM and bringing fellow Madds 9th Gutta, Captain Flint, Chi Wunda, and Saxy B onboard to help produce the show. Wind also signed on to Protect Ya Neck Management as an artist/producer in May of 2021.

Mook in the Morning will broadcast its live premier from the Mystic Dunes resort in Kissimmee, FL, on Monday Aug. 2nd on the Wu-World Radio app and on Tune In Radio from 6 a.m.-10 a.m. with an accompanying live portion on Instagram (@mookinthemorning) from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The show features such morning show staples such as hip-hop headlines, pranks, gossip, and horoscopes; an "Ask Mook" segment that allows listeners to send in letters and get advice from Mook and the co-hosts; and "Sauce or Toss", a segment hosted by Chris Wind the EMA that allows artists to send their YouTube music video links for a chance to be reviewed live and by the show's Instagram audience.
